This book really took me by surprise. By the title and the cover, I expected a murder mystery. The blurb seemed to enforce that sentiment. Then I got into the meat of the story and discovered it’s so much more! This is an alternate history novel set during the prohibition era, where the twist is that it’s a new take on vampire lore. The monsters aren’t what they seem and each twist of the plot took me by surprise. After reading it, I almost don’t even want to pin it to one genre. It had solid elements of a mystery, thriller, fantasy, alternate history, retelling–all rolled into a single tasty tale. Thoroughly enjoyed this one!
I highly recommend “A Change in Crime” for anyone looking for a fantasy that’ll have you genre-hopping with a smile!
